Description:
Abstract: This dataset was created for the GRSG National Planning Effort from the 2008 BLM Land Health spreadsheet. Sherm Karl edited this spreadsheet to indicate those allotments in which the habitat land health standard is not being achieved and livestock grazing is a causal factor in the non-achievement. These allotments were then joined to the GSSP National Allotment database on 6/28/12. Of the 1135 allotment records from the spreadsheet, 21 were not able to be mapped. Data Assumption notes: Sherm Karl - We can only assume the data are as current as 2007. Additional allotments have been assessed since then, but we do not have this information in a national data set, so we should date this as the 2008 assessment. Also, here are some assumptions I made regarding allotments that have more than 1 authorization within them, and how they were identified as either being 1) allotments that have not achieved a habitat land health standard and livestock grazing (historic or current) is a causal factor in the non-achievement; and 2) allotments that have not yet been evaluated for land health. 1. Utah—Some allotments had multiple authorizations. Some of the authorizations within the allotment had a completed land health evaluation and all land health standards were achieved. Other authorizations within the allotment had yet to have a land health evaluation. Allotments in this situation were identified as “allotments in which a land health evaluation had yet to be completed”. If any portion of the allotment had yet to be evaluated for land health, the entire allotment was identified as not having a completed land health evaluation. 2. Oregon/Washington—Some allotments had multiple authorizations. Some of the authorizations within the allotment did not yet have a completed land health evaluation. Other authorizations within the allotment had a completed land health evaluation and there was non-achievement of the habitat land health standard and livestock grazing was a causal factor in the non-achievement. Allotments in this situation were identified as “allotments not achieving a habitat land health standard and livestock grazing was causal in the non-achievement”. If any portion of the allotment was not achieving the habitat land health standard and livestock grazing was a causal factor in that non-achievement, the entire allotment was identified as “not achieving the habitat land health standard and livestock grazing was causal in the non-achievement”. 3. Oregon/Washington—Some allotments had multiple authorizations. Some of the authorizations within the allotment had a completed land health evaluation and all land health standards were achieved. Some authorizations within the allotment did not yet have a completed land health evaluation. Allotments in this situation were identified as “allotments in which a land health evaluation had yet to be completed”. If any portion of the allotment had yet to be evaluated for land health, the entire allotment was identified as not having a completed land health evaluation. 4. Colorado—Some allotments had multiple authorizations. Some authorizations within the allotment have yet to be evaluated for land health. Some authorizations within the allotment have been evaluated for land health and all land health standards are being achieved. Some authorizations within the allotment have been evaluated for land health and don’t achieve all land health standards. Allotments in this situation were identified as “allotments in which a land health evaluation had yet to be completed”. If any portion of the allotment had yet to be evaluated for land health, the entire allotment was identified as not having a completed land health evaluation. 5. Idaho—Some allotments had multiple authorizations. Some authorizations within the allotment had completed a land health evaluation and the habitat land health standard was not achieving and livestock grazing was a causal factor in the non-achievement. Some authorizations within the allotment had completed a land health evaluation and the habitat land health standard was not achieving but factors other than livestock grazing were causal in the non-achievement. Allotments in this situation were identified as “not achieving the habitat land health standard and livestock grazing was causal in the non-achievement”. If any portion of the allotment was not achieving the habitat land health standard and livestock grazing was a causal factor in that non-achievement, the entire allotment was identified as “not achieving the habitat land health standard and livestock grazing was causal in the non-achievement”. 6. Idaho—Some allotments had multiple authorizations. Some authorizations within the allotment had completed a land health evaluation and all land health standards were achieved. Some authorizations within the allotment have not yet evaluated land health. Allotments in this situation were identified as “allotments in which a land health evaluation had yet to be completed”. If any portion of the allotment had yet to be evaluated for land health, the entire allotment was identified as not having a completed land health evaluation.
